We represent you!
The community elects seven citizens from the Lawrence school district to serve as at-large members of the board of education: (back row, l to r) Rich Minder, Scott Morgan, Vanessa Sanburn and Bob Byers; (front row, l to r) Mary Loveland, Mark Bradford and Marlene Merrill. Each serves a four-year term without salary. The board's duties include setting educational policy, approving the district's budget, and hiring and evaluating the superintendent.
The board meets twice monthly, generally on the second and fourth Mondays of the month. These public meetings begin at 7 p.m. at the district's Educational Support and Distribution Center, 110 McDonald Drive. Board meetings are televised LIVE on Sunflower Broadband Channel 26, LPS TV26, with replays at 6 p.m. on Wednesday nights.
The school district posts board meeting agendas on its website and places additional copies on file for public review at the Lawrence Public Library and in the office of the Clerk of the Board at 110 McDonald Drive.
Each board agenda includes a time for Audience Participation. The school district makes forms available at each board meeting to patrons who wish to comment. The board invites comments on items not included on its agenda at the beginning of each meeting. The board provides opportunities for public comment on agenda items after board members have discussed the items. The board asks that patrons limit their comments to five minutes.
The Lawrence Board of Education welcomes public comment and participation.
